Atraumatic Restorative Treatment using the GIC filling material and extraction of the deciduous teeth was performed in 32 students of the Govt Kanya Schala (Govt Girls School) with the full consent of parents and the class teachers. About 7 very anxious children were treated seperately after the apron and mask was removed by the volunteer dentist , since it was adding to the Odontophobia in these rural children. Only the gloves were used as barrier methods and the dental treatment was done in presence of Parents and Teacher, this lead to the successful completion of the ART in the Child who was initially not allowing the dentist even to touch his teeth? In the camp situation followings steps are a must to reduce the anxiety
1. Seperate the children who exhibit inordinate dental anxiety
2. Ask the teacher / Parent to be present during treatment
3. Remove your white doctors apron and mask , but keep the gloves-being in street clothes assuages the fear complex
4. Back it with dental education immediately and use some kind of reward system for children participating in the program - in this case each was given a cup of ice cream.
